As a multilingual

02.28.05 (11:48 pm)   [edit]
I have been feeling funny ever since I got out of class where a heated discussion in French took place. I cannot help but translate every word and sentence I run into and occurs in me into French recently, which causes nausea and dizziness. I learned to speak French as a little kid and French naturally comes out as other languages including Engilsh. Still given that I have been away from any French for a looong time,to say the least of academic discourse that involves even more complication in depth, I need to take some more time to adjust this new environment (where all other students are from Haiti or French native speakers one way or another, by the way) to feel more comfortable about this frequent switching of the linguistic gear in my system, which is all about something very physical.

Is it already this time?

02.27.05 (3:21 am)   [edit]
I just went on reading all day and night today. There is a whole lot to catch up with school work so I should not spent too long on this but once I start, it is so difficult to put it down.

where my books went to

02.26.05 (2:38 am)   [edit]

For it has been too long sinc I brought some of books that I no longer need to have around me to used book stores, I finally put some of them all together and brought them to one of used stores that I ket in mind for a while. What blew me away was how little the buyer cared the value of books that I brought in; all he cared to know was how 'new' they looked. I almost cracked up as I learned that all he welcomed were books stayed in good shape solidly on surface. You might think it is silly to get worked up for books that no longer belong to you unless that affects the money you end up getting after all and there might be no point of brooding on how educated the buyer could be. I was unhappy for the  matter as well as just seeing books that I brought in undervalued, which could literally be translated into a word such as 'humiliated', by certain unforgivable ignorance. I wound up selling books once I did not mind spend a whole lot of money on for $4.10 today, which was not even sufficient to get another book that I wanted from the store. How could I not to be offended by this sort of ignorance? It is thtoughly acceptable if somebody who sells ham to you can be uneducated or illiterate. But if somebody who determines the market price of cultural material is a idiot, the one absolutely deteriorates the quality of the whole publishing industry.

I still new to this blog set up and there already are some wonders. It seems that this host is designed to let us fellow bloggers interact each other very easily. This was what I wanted when I was caught up the previous host for nothing.

Just reading at home all day. Given it is snowing heavily and it seems that it will stick tonight, I should be happily away from working.

French

02.23.05 (1:41 am)   [edit]
I have managed to finish an essay that I should submit tomorrow. The trick of this writing is that it is in French. I had not had any occasion of completing any academic writing, regardless of short or long, light or heavy, for almost eight nine years. Therefore, it felt as if it was such an accomplishment when I completed it. I will have to take another look tomorrow when I am freshened up by a night sleep.
